Wrock the Vote

As Dumbledore reminds us, it is our choices that show who we truly are as individuals and as a society. For all of us in the US who will be “of age” this November it is time to WROCK the vote and choose our Congressional representatives.

What can we do?

  • Register attendees at wizard rock concerts
  • Register people at other local events or outside your Metro station or grocery store
  • Register family, friends and colleagues online, or with printed forms
  • Mail completed forms immediately to the appropriate election board (see addresses in our area below)

What will I need to answer people’s questions?

  • The state-specific info included on the printed forms should help answer most questions
  • In Virginia, check out and direct people to Virginia voter registration info. Mail forms to the county registrar listed on the form or to the State Board of Elections, 200 N 9th St, Suite 101, Richmond, VA 23219. In Virginia, you must supply a receipt to the registrant, which is included on the Virgina voter registration form. Deadline to register: October 12.
  • In DC, check out and direct people to DC voter registration info. Mail forms to DC Board of Elections & Ethics, 441 4th St NW, Suite 250, Washington, DC 20001. Deadline to register: October 12.
  • In Maryland, check out and direct people to Maryland voter registration info. Mail forms to State Board of Elections, P.O. Box 6486, Annapolis, MD 21401. Deadline to register: October 12.

Where should college students register?

  • College students should register using the address they consider their primary residence. This will probably be the address displayed on their ID. They can vote absentee if they will not be at that location during the election.

What about absentee voting?

  • In Virginia, voters should fill out an absentee ballot request and mail or fax it to the registrar’s office by the Tuesday prior to the election. Their ballot must be received by election day.
  • In DC, voters should fill out an online absentee ballot request by the Tuesday prior to the election. They must mail their ballot on or before election day, and their ballot must be received by November 12.
  • In Maryland, voters should fill out an absentee ballot request and mail, fax or e-mail it by the Tuesday prior to the election. They must mail their ballot on or before election day, and their ballot must be received by November 12.

Do first-time voters have any special requirements?

  • First-time voters are advised to bring an ID or a piece of mail (government mail or a utility bill) that shows their address.
